Summary:
Directs and provides nursing care to patients and/or residents at the direction of physicians and supervise the day to day nursing activities of nursing staff such as LPN's, CNA's, and Unit Clerks by performing the following duties personally.
Responsible for ensuring that all critical tasks are fulfilled on a timely basis.
Critical Tasks:
Renders comprehensive nursing care and is responsible for inmates from intake to release.
Completes nursing assessment of inmate's condition consistent with age and condition including physical, psychological, social, developmental and educational needs.
Performs ongoing inmate assessment and identifies variances from diagnosisReview and responds to inmate's Tank SlipsOrders medications, drugs and supplies, processes physician's orders.
Provides education/instructions to inmates; develops and utilizes the treatment plan involving other healthcare professional and departments, as indicated;Shares observations and assessment outcomes with health care team to ensure communication and understanding of inmate's health status, progress and ongoing needsCall the physician or designee for medication and treatment orders, and/or other emergencies.
Assist in coordinating with Medical Officers to schedule off site professional medical services, such as dental, optometry and or medical imagining.
Monitor, as directed, inmate inpatient hospitalizations; daily reports to the Director of Clinical services or designee.
Maintain a safe working environment by following DRS security policies.
Utilize facility and correctional policies and procedures.
Maintains security and confidentiality of all medical records.
Maintains and updates inmate's medical records through concise, accurate and timely documentationPrepare and maintain a variety of statistical, summary and/or operational records, reports and logs;Maintains professional and technical competency through regular participation in a variety of educational programs and in-services, reviews relevant professional publications and materialsDevelops and maintains good working and professional relationships with other health care team members and providers to facilitate open and cooperative communicationProvides orientation to the medical unit and DRS systems and processes to inmates to ensure familiarity with unit policies and requirementsContributes to the team/unit's efforts by completing required activities within established parameters to ensure compliance with all applicable medication, storage and documentation standards, regulations and requirementsReviews and reinforces with inmate's ongoing education of basic technical procedures, activities and safety necessary for daily livingParticipates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiativesParticipates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skills and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Director of Clinical Services.
Required
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse nursing program from an accredited university or college; Bachelors' Degree preferred.
Registered Nurse licensure in Arizona in good standing or qualified Compact Licensure.
Current and continuing BLS training and certification.
Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures.
