As directed and supervised by healthcare professional, performs a variety of activities to support and assist in provision of direct patient care in a dialysis setting in accordance with established program policies, standards, procedures and compliance with local, Tribal, state and federal regulationsAs directed and supervised by healthcare professional, collects and records a variety of routine pre-dialysis patient data including, but not limited to:
vital signs, weight, general condition and special problemsPrepares dialyzer and delivery system for use as prescribedMonitors equipment to ensure proper operations; notifies appropriate healthcare professional of equipment problemsMakes safety checks on equipment; initiates and terminates hemodialysis treatmentConsults with Registered Nurse regarding patient care; executes nursing care plan as directed and supervisedIdentifies and reports unusual findings or observations, clinical symptoms, behaviors and treatment reactions to appropriate healthcare professionalAs supervised by healthcare professional, administers hemodialysis medications to patients in accordance with physician ordersAssists obtain lab work and tests as ordered by physician; assists prepare monthly lag tubes for patientsMaintains current all records of medication and related health care provided in accordance with all applicable regulations, licensing requirements and standardsAssists patient to and from dialysis station; may transports patient to and from other clinical areas for proceduresMonitors patients during treatment by taking vitals; notifies appropriate healthcare professional of potential problemsPerforms visual inventory of stock items; re-orders standard items to provide for availability of supplies for optimum efficient unit operationsPerforms a variety of activities to provide for the ongoing maintenance of the unit's environmentParticipates in a variety of in-services and unit meetings to maintain understanding of care plan changesRefers problems beyond standards of practice to Registered Nurse as appropriateParticipates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiativesParticipates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with SupervisorCompletion of a course of study leading to a high school diploma or equivalentGraduation of an approved program as a Dialysis Patient Care Technician with certification; 1 year previous patient care experience in a dialysis center preferredCurrent CPR and BLS certification, or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
