Supervises technical operations of the medical laboratory by performing the following duties personally and through subordinate staff.
Responsible for ensuring that all critical tasks are fulfilled on a timely basis.
Ensure efficient operations of the lab, including compliance with all state and federal regulatory agencies (e.
g.
OSHA, TJC, and CLIA).
Possesses complete knowledge of all test requirements, Joint Commission, and CLIA regulations while continually maintaining an updated job knowledge of all laboratory services and capabilities.
Oversees laboratory quality assurance/quality compliance activities while maintaining required documentation and implementing remedial actions when lab testing deviates from standards and requirements.
Directly supervises laboratory personnel while ensuring lab quality, accuracy of all lab results, and continually improving staff capabilities through coach and mentoring.
Spearheads quality assessment activities to ensure that problems occurring within the laboratory are identified and corrected, test result reporting is timely, and that if necessary, patient results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and test results are accurately reported.
Coordinates all work duties with manager.
Coordinates with the Laboratory Manager to continually improve the laboratory working environment and outcomes, staffing, workload, technical and operational capabilities, employee productivity and other issues/concerns as they arise.
Confirms that personnel have been appropriately trained and have demonstrated competency prior to testing patient specimens.
Reviews test results daily for accuracy in comparison to lab and equipment criteria.
Ensures that all quality assurance and compliance standards are met or exceeded.
Maintains required quality documentation and takes rapid remedial actions when failures or inaccuracies are discovered.
Assures accurate and timely reporting of all test results and takes necessary corrective action when needed.
Actively participate in selecting appropriate tests, method verification, equipment and instrument analyses.
Participates in the preparation of department budget and recommends equipment, materials and supply levels.
Maintains competencies for all areas of the lab including chemistry, coagulation, hematology, microbiology and serology.
Ensures that the laboratory is appropriately staffed based upon normal service demand patterns.
Ensure that all proficiency testing and procedures are current, revised yearly, and reviewed by staff yearly.
Ensures the selection of appropriate tests, proper method verifications, and equipment/instrument performance and compliance are current and up to date.
Participates in the hiring of highly reliable and capable employees.
Ensures safe workplace practices and corrects any hazards that exist.
Ensures full compliance with all HIPAA regulations by all lab staff members.
Plans, designs, and directs installation of new or improved laboratory techniques.
Ensures high quality and accuracy of all lab activities and testing.
Ensures a very highly organized and coordinated lab operation while eliminating confusion and disorganization.
Responds rapidly or ensures rapid response to licensed medical professional requests and questions.
Rapidly takes corrective actions when test systems and results deviate from established performance standards and specifications.
Evaluates and participates in the implementation of laboratory equipment and methods.
Demonstrates ability to regularly change priorities to accomplish all tasks despite frequent interruptions.
Demonstrates ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in writing, while performing all essential functions.
Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology from an accredited university.
Certified Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist with ASCP or equivalent certification required.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience within the last ten years performing moderate and/or high complexity testing in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology and clinical microscopy in a clinical laboratory including three (3) years supervising a major function or unit in a licensed clinical laboratory.
Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
